LIKE A STAR IN THE NIGHT

Far from staged melodrama that such a subject can inspire the director Rene Feret the contrary based on the autobiography of a family member of his entourage to evoke both the joys and tears of a painful disease, an illness experienced by two people, one reached into his flesh, the other hit in his heart. The film takes hold on the search for an emotion real and an everyday which forbids the emphasis and dramatic. Instead the pace of the film follows the couple, in turn filled with the joy of meeting and the first time then assailed by doubts about the test and the fear of death.

With this staging discreet and restrained, the film relies almost entirely on the shoulders of the two main players, Salome Stevenin, daughter of Jean-Francois Stevenin and sister Sagamore Stevenin and Robinson, and Nicolas Giraud. The two young actors have mastered by the delicacy of their relationship and especially the enormous help of a couple in jeopardy by a invisible evil. Salome Stevenin, more intuitive, and Nicolas Giraud, more cerebral, complement each other perfectly to embody the image of a modern couple who chooses early towards a joint project at a time when we reject the further possible such a solemn commitment. Stronger than the doubts and unspoken of the entourage, Marc and Anne stand against all odds when the disease will transform their lives in a perpetual struggle without respite.

A screenwriter, director, producer and distributor, René Feret give everything to retain its independence since its inception in the late seventies. His first film, Story of Paul is already noticed by winning the Prix Jean Vigo in 1975, but with the selection of his next film for the official competition at Cannes, solemn Communion, in 1977, he found his place in French cinema. Far from accepting the proposals that flower, it prefers to remain outside the formal system to continue to implement projects that are dear to his heart, turning at a rate of one film every two or three years. Filmmaker profoundly creative, it relies on the performance of his actors and the dynamics of the shoot rather than on respect for the script and the film "everything done" even before the first clap. Despite this and Like a star in the night can see, René Feret is located in a certain French tradition of social drama that installs the reality of his subject over the injunctions of the show.
